30 Days of Thankfulness: 2 & a card to boot!

 

Working hard....today I am grateful that I have the ability to work hard. That my limbs work and that my mind is sharp (okay, so perhaps not "sharp" but "working well" can still apply, right? LOL) I have been hard at work for weeks wrapping up an ongoing project that I am almost done with and today was a majorly long hard day...and though my muscles ache and my eyes are sore from shooting hundreds of step out photos, I am thankful that I have muscles that ache only because I over worked them and eyes that are sore because I have using them to SEE...Thank you Lord for the things I so often forget to say THANK YOU for.

A Pink Lemonade Tutorial - Die Cut Twine Embellishments

Howdy folks! It's been a busy day here at the Sereika house! I had hoped to have this posted about TWELVE HOURS AGO...but the day had a mindset unto itself it seems! LOL

Today I wanted to share a nifty way to use twine...I am going to use twine from The Twinery in Lemondrop, Buttercream & Mandarin. I find these three together make a very nice Autumn color palette. :)

The supplies you will need to make this fun embellishment are super basic:
The Twinery Twine in assorted colors
Scor-Tape Sheets by Scor-Pal
Nested Maple Leaves Die by Spellbinders (or die of your choice) & Die Cut Machine
Scrap Cardstock

 

Step One: Cut the Scor-Tape just larger than needed for your die cut. Cut scrap cardstock just longer on one end. Here I have cut a piece 2.5" x 3.0" then cut the cardstock just .25" longer, 2.5"x3.25". Adhere the Scor-Tape to the cardstock and remove the top piece to reveal the tape.

 

Step Two: Adhere the darkest color of twine on an angle almost in the center of the piece of tape covered cardstock. Begin to wind it back and forth pressing the twine firmly onto the adhesive as you go.

Step Three: Repeat Step Two with additional colors going lighter as you reach the edges of the adhesive covered cardstock. Be sure your die will fit on the twine covered piece.

 

Step Four: Run the piece through the die cut machine a few times, shimming if necessary to cut all the way through the twine covered cardstock. GENTLY peel away die cut twine piece from die to reveal your custom embellishment!

Fast Friday - A Triple Dip! (make that a QUADRUPLE DIP!)

I have been blogging ahead this month so that I could stay on top of things and today was the first day I had not loaded in advance... I am glad I didn't though because there were a few SUPER FUN challenges that I decided to do! :)

The first is for Clean & Simple Stamping 157. I loved this sketch when I say Amy's card here and made a mental note to play along..now I have nearly missed my chance! LOL

Well earlier this week I had shared a card using Kraft cardstock  & my CPS Sketch.  Beth had commented and invited me to play along at The Kraft Journal Challenge (Use Kraft CS & a Sketch) - So this card falls into their challenge again!

Then finally this card also falls into the CAS-ual Friday's Challenge to make a "small card" (4"x4" or smaller).

I used some really fun things on this card and thought now that you have a fun list of challenges to play along with this weekend you might want to know what I did for my card! :)

My stamps used are from Impression Obsession. They are the Cover A Card - Music & a sweet baby set that I can't seem to find online so it very well may be discontinued - so sorry! I inked the CAC with Tsukineko's Cotton White VersaMagic, then crumpled up a piece of scrap paper and pounced it accross the surface of the stamp so that I could create that "not perfect" stamped image. The sentiment is stamped using Midnight Black VersaMagic. A great ink for stamping onto lightly textured cardstock like this one here.

I then diecut my felt using Spellbinders Nested Duck die to do the little ducky and then I embellished him using some buttons from the button jar, some Cappuccino  Twine from The Twinery & a mini pearl from Want2Scrap. Enjoy!

 

 

 

My Card Positioning Systems Card of the Week

If you have spent ANY TIME AT ALL on my blog you know I have a special spot in my heart for Impression Obsession stamps...it's like they climb into my hands and the projects make themselves...I have a few companies like that and IO is one of em! I also love working with Mitra (IO Owner) because she's a HOOT! An absolute hoot! LOL Anyway, my CPS card this week showcases some of my FAVE stamps from IO - Solid Florals...this is a serious MUST HAVE, ALWAYS REACH FOR set for me! My two year old recently scattered the stamps from this set all over the house and I am still missing a few...I am sooo bummed..... But I still have this one and so I hope you enjoy!

Spread Your Wings Card

This month's kit over at Pixie Dust Paperie has such a variety of color schemes. This card I did for you today uses the BRIGHT and CHEERY colors I found littered through out the kit. For me, sunshiny yellow is just so happy, then through in some bright pinks and upbeat blues and BAM!, this card was done!



After I die cut a few butterflies to go with my card, I decided it needed a bit of sparkle so I traced around the edges of my flowers and threw some glitter on, and I also put a bit of dimensional pearls in the center of my butterflies and threw glitter on there too...one can't have too much glitter, can you??

Vintage Turquoise Collage Card

I have to say, the April Country Farm Stand kit at Pixiedust Paperie is AMAZINGLY versatile! I mean, seriously, I can’t believe how one project looks so totally different from the other! This card is all about vintage collage. I wanted to really show case how all these fun elements, buttons, tags, stickers, butterflies, fabric and more can be tied together to create a really fun fresh take on vintage.

Here’s a quick close up of the “clustered collage”…I almost want to make that a new technique – Clustered Collage. Take all the bits and pieces and just arrange them until you feel you have a balanced collage and then place it in just one section of your project. Voila! You have a clustered collage!

Miscellaneous Monday: Going to be 90!!! Can you send a card?

My friend Sue over at Berkerblog would like to surprise her husband John with 90 cards for his 90th birthday! I have made two so far and will make two more. Then both myself and my three kiddos old enough to sign their names will send Mr. John some cards...we are hoping he does get 90 cards...how cool would that be? So here's the deal - I am offering a spur of the moment Blog Candy! And here's how it's going to work.... you commit to making John a card and leave me a comment telling me so (if you have it up on your blog already, add the link!). Class today!!

I am going to be teaching at Charleston Scrapbooking today. I will be teaching my Holiday Squash Album that is featured in the December issue of Crafts 'n things.  With stamps from Impression Obsession, dies from Sizzix and the new Jovial paper collection from Basic Grey this book is filled with fun and techniques!

Beachy Family Wall Art

Today I have a fun home decor type of project to share with you. This project ran in the August Issue of Crafts n' Things. I know, I know, I always forget to load the past published projects, but that is simply because I like to create NEW things for my blog readers. I figure many of you catch the issue off the news stand or better yet you SUBSCRIBE!

This project uses Anna Griffin papers, 3-D stickers and die cuts from their beautiful Calisto Collection. I also used a beautiful swirl image from Solid Florals by Impression Obsession. I "inked it up" using delish shades of dark cream and brown acrylic paint.  I then mounted the entire project to a square of one inch thick STYROFOAM to give it a good base for hanging it on the wall. Enjoy!
