I’m thrilled to share Lacey Circles with you...
I decided to go a little outside the box with this one and do a tutorial on how to create die cut felt hair clips. There is a huge craze right now for felt, natural felted shapes, die cut shapes, if it’s felt, it’s HOT, HOT, HOT. So what better way to make a super fun and hip project than to die cut felt!!!
Die cutting felt using Spellbinders Die Templates is really simple. You will need both felt and cardstock for this technique. You are going to create a sandwich just as you would if you were die cutting cardstock, only you place a layer of felt between the die template and the piece of cardstock before you feed it through the die cut machine. You can use scrap cardstock if you like, but I found the die cuts were so perfect I just used colors I needed for other projects and kept the die cut cardstock scraps! I also feed the sandwich through the machine more than once just to be sure it cuts fully through in all places. S4-293 Lacey Circles has such a fine edge that I wanted to be sure I had perfectly cut details. Enough with the chit chat, let’s get going!
Here is a photo of my finished projects:
To create these adorable hair clips you will need:
- S4-293 Lacey Circles Die Templates
- Felt die cut in assorted colors
- Felt strips cut with pinking shears
- Buttons
- Hemp
- Two alligator hair clips (available at any pharmacy or beauty supply store)
- Hot glue gun
Begin by adding a line of glue to the bottom edge of one strip of felt.
Apply a small amount of hot glue to the top of the clip.
Bring the strip of felt up around the back of the clip and onto the top of the clip.
Trim the felt evenly at both edges.
Layer the Lacey Circles die cut felt shapes on top of one another. Use just a small dab of glue to hold in place.
Embellish using button and hemp.
Apply a thin line of glue to the top of the felt covered clip and adhere the layered and embellished Lacey Circles die cut.
Glue just the top and bottom of a piece of coordinating patterned paper to a piece of cardstock, keeping the middle of the strip free. Clip the hair clips onto the patterned paper.
And since we all know presentation is everything I also created a cute little gift bag purse and used S4-293 Lacey Circles to create the “clasp”.
And finally, I created a coordinating card to complete the cute gift ensemble. Notice how beautifully S4-293 Lacey Circles layer and add a touch of fun and whimsy to my project. Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have enjoyed my project.
