Just so that we are clear from the get go, these gifts were to the respective mother and mother in law ON TIME...it's just the POST that is late! LOL
I was able to spend a TON of time last month up in my studio doing some really general fabrication work with metals. While I was at it I thought "Why not just make "the moms" both a copper jewelry set with a true "Artisan" feel to them?"...and so I started making TONS of components because I wasn't REALLY sure what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to create two sets that were SIMILAR but yet DIFFERENT! So off I went embossing the copper first by using Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Pattern Impressabilties and my Rolling Mill. I first simply cut the Impressabilities apart and then layered in into a sandwhich of cardstock, copper sheet, Impressabilities, cardstock and rolled it through the rolling mill to get the beautiful impressions you see on these pieces here. I then struck and die cut my circles and hand cut the square pendant. Then it came time to hammer all of the edges of each piece. Once I had a nice hammered texture around the edges, I shaped them with my dapping blocks and dap punches as well as malletts and forming stakes. Finally it was time to oxidize the components, buff off the high spot and then let the pieces tumble for a bit to gently harden and polish them.
Here's the two sets I made using the components. They were HUGE HITS with the moms! :) Each one loved their set and assured me they were going to be looking for JUST THE RIGHT OUTFIT to go out in! :)
Thanks for stopping by! Let me know what you think of the pieces. Do you have a favorite shape or style? I would love to hear from you. :) Enjoy!
