Hey there! Today I am trying out a new idea on my blog. I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to give you a preview of what I am talking about first, then show you how to do it, then show you it again. I also added a "text graphic banner" to the first photo to have it Pinterest friendly - what do you think? Do you like this idea?
Well as you can see today we are going to be making a sweet & simple flower vase and floral arrangement. We had new neighbors move in down the street and I felt it would be nice to welcome them to the 'hood. I am trying to be as thrifty as possible and yet still reach other's hearts. The flowers cost me only $4.00 at Publix, the bread was just a few more pennies and some of my time. Making them all come together as a nice gift was a as simple as following this tutorial. Four flowers are hard to give and seem "nice", however using this burlap covered pickle jar made it far easier. As you can see I use the burlap as a sort of "floral arrangement screen" to help hold the flowers in place and make them look nice! Read along if you'd like to see how I did it.
Grab your supplies : Pickle Jar, Burlap & Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue - I also added a bit of ribbon at the end so if you have that grab that to. Let's get going!
Begin by cutting a strip of burlap the width of the straight part of your jar. Each jar will vary by brand, size, etc. So just figure out how wide yours needs to be and attach one end to the jar using hot melt glue. Wrap the strip all the way around and press the ends over one another.
Apply hot glue aroudn the outside edge of the top of the jar where the lid would normally screw on.
Apply hot glue to the very top edge of the jar also.
Place the jar upside down onto a scrap of burlap just bigger than the opening of the jar.
Bring the burlap up and press it into the hot glue.
Turn the jar right side up and squeeze all the way around the edge, making sure the surface of the burlap is nice and taught across the opening of the jar.
Using a small pair of very sharp scissors, snip away the excess burlap all the way around the jar.
Don't worry if it's not perfect, it will not be all that visible once the ribbon goes on and the flowers go in!
Tie a small bit of ribbon around the edge of the burlap cover. Adhere in place using hot glue.
Add water to the jar by pressing the top of a waterbottle to the center of the top and squeeze the bottle gently to force the water through the burlap.
Snip holes where youwould like your flower stems to go through. Make them SMALL - the smaller the better, for big fat stems like this I only snipped one or two threads and then just wiggled them in. If you had thin flower stems you may not need to snip at all but could simply use a toothpick to get between the weave and spread it open just a bit as you pressed your stems in.
And here's the final arrangement with a fresh loaf of bread I whipped up and a tag with all of our names and address so that the neighbors would know who lived where - you know it's so hard to remember everyone's names when you first move into a new neighborhood! I hope you enjoyed the tutorial...I have to admit, I liked the floral arrangement so much I nearly kept it for myself! LOL but I did deliver it! ;)
