Happy Fall Y'all! I am so glad it's finally here! :) I love decorating for the Autumn season. It's so earthy and organic around here! Today I have a "Go Green", super simple and very easy Fall DIY home decor craft for you...it's so simple kids can do it too! Now I am not going to lie, when I started I had a slightly different idea in mind for my finished project, so you just might see the "upgraded version" in the coming days...I had a little helper on my right hand ... so my crafting time was not without interruption nor as long as I had hoped. But I made it work!!! Read on -
The supplies list is rather small and generally easy to come by. You will need:
Empty, Clean & Dry vegetable cans
Twigs - Lots of em!
Burlap
Scissors to cut the burlap to size & possibly trim twigs if needed.
Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue (seriously - did you see the total cuteness of a glue gun I have going on here??)
Finger Protectors - not necessary but oh so lovely!
1. Cut the burlap to the size of your can, run a line of hot glue down the length of the can, wrap with burlap and press all long the line to be sure the burlap is well adhered.
2. Apply a line once again the length of the can.
3. Place a twig on the line of glue. Make sure the end of the stick DOES NOT OVERLAP the bottom edge of the can. Repeat steps 2&3 until you have worked your way around the entire can.
Here's my "finished" vase. I say "finished" only because in my mind I was going to glue the first set of twigs, then go in and add a second set of twigs to kinda "fill in the gaps", however, my eager little helper was loosing patience waiting for her turn to craft, so I figured, I still liked the vase like this, why not go with it?
Well - Now I would like to share with you Lily Kate's idea of a fun fall home decor vase!
DISCLAIMER: When crafting with kids and using hot glue guns, YOU MUST BE HANDS ON SUPERVISING. Even the Low Temp Hot Glue Gun we are using is STILL HOT and could burn little fingers. So please, please, please, use wisdom and common sense when allowing a child to use a hot glue gun.
1. I wrapped the vase and pressed the hot glue. Then I let Lily Kate use the Low Temp Mini hot glue gun. It allowed her to hold the gun and to have very precise amounts of glue applied to the vase.
2. After apply a dot of glue, LK would simply stick a punched out cardstock leaf. We just punched a TON of leaves in three Fall colors of her choosing, but think outside the bow here, if you didn't have a leaf punch you could hand cut the leaves, or you could stick REAL LEAVES on the vase if you happen to live where leaves turn...we don't. In the South the leaves just one day fall off and are gone - there is not "turn of season"... BOOO HOOO :(
3. Here's Lily Kate's finished vase. She did a GREAT JOB! And then wanted to start a second one!
On her second she added a few twigs from my craft pile and made "trees". I LOVE that look! And apparently, so does she!
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you try this or are inspired to try your hand at anything similar, I would love to see!
