As with all things, technology failed me. My computer decided to dig her heels in and not want to work! But I think she's okay now and so I FINALLY have a great new Oly-Fun™ technique to share with you. I am super excited about this one! And I have a Pretty Poppy Purse Project that I applied the new technique to. It's simple, fun and you get to play with FIRE! Let's do it!
SAFTEY NOTES: Because you will be working with a small flame, be sure and have a fire extinguisher, water or even a box of baking soda handy. Just in case the Oly-Fun™ catches fire (we are trying NOT to catch it on fire, just melt it a bit) it is good safety practices to have a fire retardant close at hand. Also work in a well ventilated room, crack a window and work near it.

1. To begin, trace an object that is approximately 2.5" around onto Oly-Fun. I found a jar and used it as a template. The actual dimensions don't matter too much. The size and shape will be changing by the time we are done. Also trace a smaller 1.25" object in both red & yellow. These will help with creating layers.
2. Cut out a pile of circles. Cut more than needed, especially for the first time. You will need a few practice circles, trust me. ;)
3. Using a long neck lighter, begin to melt the edges of the circles. A few tips I found were to set the lighter flame to it's smallest setting & use the coolest area of the flame. In this case that is the small blue section right at the tip of the metal where the flame comes out of the lighter. Hold the lighter still and bring the circle near to and into the flame. The Oly-Fun will begin to melt before even coming into contact with the flame. Our intention is to MELT the Oly-Fun - not BURN it or have it CATCH FIRE. As you can see, I used four circles to learn how the Oly-Fun will react to the heat. I then melted two larger red circles, and one smaller yellow circle. The extra circles I had cut will be used in a forthcoming project I suppose!
4. Once you have melted two larger red circles and one smaller yellow circle to your liking, place a small dot of Low Temp hot glue in the center of the larger melted red circle. Press the second melted red circle into the center. Repeat with the smaller melted yellow circle.
5. Add a final dot of Low Temp hot glue and press a black button to the center. Your poppy is complete.
6. For my finished project, I simply took a pre-made gray felt clutch I had purchased at Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores and hot glued two strips of green ric rac to the front. I then hot glued the poppy in place and my project was complete! I hope you enjoy!
